Partner Visas

Under the UK Partner Visa or Spouse Visa, applicants who are; either a spouse or civil partner or unmarried partner of a British citizen or of a person who is settled in the UK, can make an application for a family visa and after the successful application, come and stay in the UK.

To qualify for the UK Partner or Spouse visa following must be true;

  1. Both parties have to be at least 18-year-old and,
  2. They have met and been legally married or have undergone a civil partnership registration.

  • • Applicants also prove that there will be proper accommodation for them and their dependents and they will be able to finance themselves adequately without needing to recourse public funds.

  • • In addition to that, to qualify for an unmarried partner visa, parties need to live together and be in a genuine relationship that is similar to marriage or civil partnership, for 2 years or more. However, this must not give a perception of a “marriage of convenience”.

  • • Moreover, under this visa category, applicants have to fulfil the financial requirement and English Language requirements.

  • •The financial requirement under this visa type can be met either through regular income, cash savings or a combination of both. Bank statements, pay slips and other types of documents must be submitted along with the application.

  • • The financial requirement threshold differs depending on the visa type and who is applying.

  • • The UK Family visas are specifically designed for overseas nationals who want to come to the UK either to remain in the UK; as the partners’ children, or elderly dependent relatives of people who are already in the UK.

  • • It also enables certain people such as British citizens, people with Indefinite Leave to Remain status, and EEA-nationals resident in the UK to sponsor their partners, parents or children so that they can stay and live with them in the UK.

EU Settlement Scheme Family Permit

Under certain circumstances, EU Settlement Scheme Family Permit allows persons, who are either a(i) spouse, (ii) civil partner or (iii) unmarried partner of an EEA National currently exercising their treaty rights in the UK, to come and live in the UK.

Marriage Visa UK / Fiance Visa

Persons under this Family Visa route are allowed to enter the UK if they are either (i) fiance(e), (ii) proposed civil partner of a British citizen or (iii) a person who is settled in the UK. Their main objective must be to get married or register their civil partnership no later than 6 months of their arrival in the UK. They also must show their intent to settle here together afterwards.
